A plain-English explanation of what Written Within collects and why.

Last updated: 11 September 2026

Who is responsible?

Written Within is a personal faith website operated in the United Kingdom by the site owner. The owner is responsible for deciding how information submitted through this website is used.

What information is collected?

If you leave a comment, the site collects the name you provide, the words you submit, the date and time, and your recorded consent. Your comment may reveal information about your religious or philosophical beliefs, so please share only what you are comfortable submitting.

To reduce spam and abuse, the site also creates a one-way technical fingerprint from network and browser information. The original network address is not stored in the comments database. The fingerprint is used only to apply a short-term submission limit and is periodically deleted.

How is it used?

Your name and comment are stored for moderation. Nothing appears publicly unless the site owner approves it. If approved, your chosen name and comment will be visible to anyone visiting that entry. The information is not used for advertising or sold to anyone.

The basis for storing and potentially publishing comments is your explicit consent. Limited technical information is processed for the legitimate interest of protecting the site and its readers from spam or abuse. You may withdraw your consent and ask for a comment to be removed.

Who handles the information?

The site, its database and submitted comments are hosted by OpenAI through ChatGPT Sites and its supporting infrastructure. If you accept optional Google Analytics, Google also processes the resulting analytics information. Information may be processed outside the United Kingdom; ChatGPT Sites does not currently promise a particular data-residency location.

Anonymous website statistics

Written Within keeps anonymous, aggregated statistics so the site owner can understand which public pages and entries are read. It records the page path, hour of the visit, referring website where available, broad device type and whether the page appears to begin a new visit.

The statistics do not use cookies or browser storage and do not create individual visitor profiles. IP addresses, full browser details, names and persistent device identifiers are not stored. A visit is an approximation based on somebody entering from outside Written Within; the system cannot identify unique people.

Known automated visitors are excluded where they can be recognised. Anonymous statistics are retained for up to two years and are used only to understand readership and maintain the website.

Optional Google Analytics

Google Analytics is used only if you select Accept analytics. It uses cookies to produce additional reports about visits, pages read, engagement, general device and browser information, approximate location and how visitors reached the site. Written Within does not enable Google advertising signals or use these reports for advertising or marketing.

The reports available to Written Within do not include your name or contact details and are not used by Written Within to identify you. Google may process analytics information outside the United Kingdom. You can read Google’s privacy policy.

Your analytics choice is remembered on your device for up to six months. You can change or withdraw it at any time using Analytics settings in the footer. Withdrawing consent stops further Google Analytics collection on that browser and removes the Google Analytics cookies accessible to Written Within.

How long is it kept?

Approved comments are kept while the relevant entry remains published, unless you ask for removal. Comments that remain pending or are hidden are automatically removed after 90 days. Short-term anti-spam records are periodically cleared and are not used for any other purpose.

Your choices and rights

You may ask what personal information is held about you, request a correction or deletion, withdraw consent, object to particular uses, or ask for a copy where applicable. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Make a privacy request

Use the comment form on any Scripture or Devotional entry and begin your message with PRIVACY REQUEST. Include a contact method if you need a reply. It will remain private and cannot be approved as a public comment.

Local reading preferences

The text-size and day/night reading controls save preferences in your browser. They stay on your device. The site also stores your analytics choice for up to six months. Google Analytics cookies are created only if you accept them.

Changes

This notice will be updated if the site begins collecting information in a different way.
