Just months before I published this site, I wrestled with a question I couldn’t answer: what is all this for?
I’d suffered loss. Family members. Friends. Grief had accumulated at an unfathomable rate, and life seemed difficult to understand. I was not looking for easy answers and, after 30 years as an atheist, I was not looking for God.
On the road to Emmaus, two disciples walk beneath the weight of their own loss. Jesus has been crucified and, seemingly hopeless, they cannot make sense of what has happened. Then Jesus comes alongside them.
What speaks so powerfully to me is that they do not recognise him immediately. Today, I can see how people of faith were gently placed along my path, including in my workplace. They did not force opinion. They listened, answered questions and opened the door to conversations about God. Only later did I realise that Jesus had already met me on the road.
Then came an encounter with Jesus, in my own home, with a broken heart. It changed everything.
It didn’t instantly answer every question or banish grief, nor build my faith overnight. But something came alive. Five months later, I was baptised before my friends and family, at a church where I had been welcomed so warmly. As a transformation, it’s breathtaking.
Faith has given me hope, purpose and an energy I couldn’t have imagined.
Perhaps you are walking a road of grief, doubt or uncertainty? Perhaps you do not yet recognise who is walking beside you? Jesus does not always arrive with a thunderclap. Sometimes he draws near quietly, and only afterwards do we realise that our hearts had already begun to burn.
This site has a two-fold purpose. To document my own journey through faith as I learn more about Scripture, immersing myself in God's Word. Beyond that, though, it is my hope that someone, somewhere out there who is suffering through pain, and isn't sure what to make of anything. Maybe there's something in these words, something in these pages that can help.
